My team was assigned to the assessment of my first abandoned building, a former laboratory owned by the MIT Department of Facilities. Standing vacant for many months, we encountered a structure without ventilation or lighting and a requirement to collect enough information to assign asset values and make recommendations for its best end use. It turned out to be a fascinating study in the difference between darkness and light.
